Eric & Katie Rymer

Eric and Katie Rymer will be our guest speakers on Sunday, December 13th. They are missionaries from The International Mission Board to East Asia. Following is a little bit about them. We look forward to hearing more on Sunday.

I, Eric, was born in Chattanooga in 1978. My family began attending Silverdale Baptist Church shortly thereafter and has been there ever since. I became involved in R.A.'s, VBS, youth group, and mission trips. I graduated from to Ooltewah High in 1996 then UTC in 2000 with a B.S. in Mathematics. In 1999 I came to the realization that as an 8 year old boy I had only walked an aisle to get some Jesus--my get out of hell free card; but had not ever confessed sin and repented from my sins. So as a senior in college I for the first time confessed, repented, and accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord. Upon college graduation I began to teach middle/high school math and coach basketball and baseball at Silverdale Baptist Academy through 2004 school year. In October 2002 I married Katie. We continued briefly to live and work at Bethel Bible Village, her job at the time. Then in September 2004 we headed to New Zealand, and then, Thailand serving with YWAM for a total of 6 months, 3 months in each country. Then 2005-2006 we attended Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. In the meanwhile we had begun the application process with the IMB to serve in East Asia. And in May 2006 we began our service with the IMB in East Asia. As of May 2009 we are stateside and awaiting reappointment to return in Summer 2010.

Katie was born and raised the first 18 years in Brunswick, Maryland, a small railroad town settled in the Appalachian Mountains.  During her Elementary School years she lived a couple doors down from a Southern Baptist Church.  She began attending Sunday School and GA's.  Specifically GA's made a huge impact on introducing her to the love of Jesus and God's heart for the world.  She continued to be involved in Acteens and then taught Children In Action.  In 1996 after graduating from High School, she attended Washington Bible College to pursue a more solid foundation in the Word of God with Christian service and Missions as a desire.  Katie felt a specific call as a single woman to serve orphans so immediately after graduating college, she moved to Chattanooga, TN hired as a houseparent at Bethel Bible Village.  During her role as houseparent she began attending Silverdale Baptist Church in Chattanooga and met future husband Eric.  Their relationship began and built on the desire to serve Overseas.Â
